Opel Ampera is considered the best car of the year

Opel Ampera – the European version of Chevrolet Volt – became a winner of the European Car of the Year contest with 330 points. Second is Volkswagen Up! with 281 points and third came in Ford Focus next-gen with 256 points. Among other finalists there were Range Rover Evoque (186 points), Fiat Panda (156 points), Citroen DS5 (144 points) and Toyota Yaris (122 points). Winners were decided by the jury of 59 journalists from 23 European countries.

It is noteworthy, that this is not a first success for Opel in this European contest during last several years. For example, in 2010 Opel Astra and in 2011 Opel Meriva won bronze with 221 and 244 points respectively. Therewith, in 2011 Chevrolet Volt – twin-brother of Ampera hybrid car – became a winner of two major contests: “North American Car and Truck of the Year” and “The Green Car of the year” awards. As a Green Car of the Year it managed to outscore, for example, Nissan Leaf.

Opel Almera supposed to be launched earlier, but due to several delays it began only a month ago. GM expects to sell 10,000 such vehicles in Europe this year.
